'Tomato' Honor After World Cup Win!

A gift of tomatoes for winning the World Cup 2026! If something like this happened in our country, it would have turned into a huge scandal. There would have been widespread criticism. But that didn't happen in Spain. Two midfielders of the world champion team, Fabian Ruiz and Gavi, received the 'tomato honor' upon returning to their hometown.

The hometown of these two midfielders is the small town of Los Palacios y Villafranca, south of Seville. A reception was organized at the Town Hall on Wednesday to honor the two world-conquering footballers from the town. As part of the event, a weighing scale was placed there. The two footballers' weights would be measured first. Ruiz weighed in at 85 kg, and Gavi at 68.5 kg. They were presented with tomatoes equivalent to their weight at the reception ceremony. Also present there was 2010 World Cup winner Jesus Navas.

Local organizers said, "This is how we honor accomplished sportspersons from our town. This is our municipality's traditional custom." Additionally, the Town Hall will take the initiative to build a monument in honor of the three world champions, so that the town can preserve the memory of their achievements for a lifetime.
