Omar Sani lauds teacher's viral reel

Beauty Pal, a school teacher of Fenchuganj in Sylhet turned prey of cyberbullying and ridicule on social media after making a reel video featuring the popular song "Shraboner Meghgulo Joro Holo Akashe, Ojhore Nambe Bujhi Shraboner Dhara..."

The incident drew criticism from some local news portals and a section of netizens. However, colleagues and civil society members have since rallied behind the teacher. Now, popular Dhallywood actor Omar Sani has joined the protesters and spoken out on the matter.

In a video message recently shared on social media, Omar Sani expressed strong condemnation and frustration over the demeaning attempt.

At the start of the video, he hummed a few lines of the song and became nostalgic, saying, "This song was released in the 1990s, at the beginning of our youth. We used to try to sing it in our own odd ways and would become deeply romantic. Even when I entered the film industry, the song was still playing—and today, it continues to resonate in the hearts of the Bengali nation."

However, moving beyond the song, he addressed the real social issue. Expressing profound respect for the teaching community, he said, "I haven't come here today to talk about the song. I want to talk about a teacher—someone who works in a position of utmost respect, a molder of human character. She had worn a beautiful saree and made a lovely video."

Directing strong criticism at online bullies and trolls, Omar Sani said, "But there are some people with distorted mindsets in society who have nothing productive to do. Hiding behind their phones, they try to hurl abuses. Those who don't have the courage to speak face-to-face are the ones making these futile attempts to go viral. Doesn't a teacher have the right to a personal life or leisure?"

Criticizing the demands to have the teacher dismissed from her job, he added, "Some are saying she should be removed from service—how could she be a head teacher! Before saying such things, one should look at their own mentality."

Recalling that he has always raised his voice against injustice, Omar Sani extended his good wishes to Teacher Beauty Pal. He said, "Ma'am, you are a molder of character—you will surely do well. You have given us a wonderful video. There will always be some negative people along the way; don't pay any heed to them. Even though I don't know you personally, I wish you all the success from afar."

It may be noted that after the controversy erupted over the reel made by Head Teacher Beauty Pal of Fenchuganj, Sylhet, her colleagues also created their own videos with the same song in a unique show of solidarity and support for her.

Omar Sani's video message has been widely praised by netizens and is being seen as a strong statement against trolling.
