Habiganj remains tense despite the imposition of Section 144 over rival programs announced by the National Citizen Party (NCP) and the BNP. In response to the situation, three platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have been deployed to maintain law and order.

From 4:30 pm Wednesday, BGB personnel began patrolling several key areas of the district headquarters. Police officers have also been deployed at more than 50 points.

Lieutenant Colonel Tanzilur Rahman, commanding officer of 55 BGB, told Agamir Somoy, "BGB is making public announcements through drones to ensure the safety of people's lives and property in areas where Section 144 is in effect. BGB is carrying out its duties in coordination with other law enforcement agencies in conflict prone areas."

Earlier, on Tuesday evening, leaders of the NCP, including Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary and Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam, came under attack while returning to the Circuit House after a street rally in front of the Town Hall in Habiganj town.

Sarjis Alam blamed leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal for the attack. He claimed the attack took place because of his criticism of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

Following the attack, the NCP suspended its two scheduled marches in Moulvibazar on Wednesday and announced a protest program in Habiganj. Central leaders, including Nahid Islam, Akhtar Hossain, Sarjis Alam, Hasnat Abdullah, Dr. Atik Mujahid and Sarwar Tushar, were scheduled to take part in the program. Ahead of the program, Sarjis Alam made strong remarks targeting Tarique Rahman.

Meanwhile, Habiganj District Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Shah Rajib Ahmed Ringon, Habiganj District Jubo Dal Convener Jalal Ahmed and Member Secretary Shafikur Rahman Sittu announced protest programs on social media. Habiganj Municipal BNP also announced a similar program.

At the same time, several leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organizations were also seen making various posts on social media.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday afternoon, police stopped Hasnat Abdullah, Sarjis Alam and Nasiruddin Patwary at the Moulvibazar Habiganj border when they attempted to enter Habiganj.
