Tunisia appoints fourth head coach in seven months

The Tunisia head coaching position has become a revolving door. Three coaches have already left the job in 2026 alone. After a series of dramatic developments, Moein Chaabani has now taken charge of the national team.
Tunisia experienced major coaching drama during the World Cup. Head coach Sabri Lamouchi was dismissed at the very beginning of the tournament following a heavy defeat. It was the first such incident in World Cup history. Hervé Renard then took over the team. However, his stint also ended shortly after Tunisia was eliminated in the group stage.
Since then, Tunisia had been searching for a new head coach. The 45 year old Chaabani has finally been appointed to the role. He will remain in charge of the national team through 2030.
The former defender has taken charge of a national team for the first time in his 12 year coaching career. During his playing career, he won Tunisia’s top flight league title six times. As a coach, he guided Espérance de Tunis to three league titles, two Tunisian Super Cups, and two CAF Champions League titles. Most recently, Chaabani was in charge of Moroccan club RS Berkane.
Chaabani is Tunisia’s fourth head coach this year. Since the beginning of 2024, the national team has had eight different head coaches.
