At least seven people were killed and 14 others were injured in Erulia, Bogura, when a bus lost control and ran over the workers waiting by the roadside around 5:30 am on Friday.
Bogura Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Ibrahim Ali confirmed the matter.
Four of the deceased have been identified as Amirul, Nur Alam, Abdus Samad, and Belal, all of whom were residents of Gaibandha district.
According to locals, a Naogaon-bound Shah Fateh Ali AC bus from Dhaka lost control on the Erulia section of the Bogura-Naogaon regional road and crashed into a nearby labor market. At that time, around 2530 paddy harvesting workers were gathered there waiting for employment.
OC Ibrahim said, “Three people died on the spot in the bus crash. Another four died after being taken to the hospital. Several others were injured in the crash.”
The injured were rescued and taken to Bogura’s Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. Doctors said the condition of the 14 injured is critical.
Meanwhile, after
the road accident, locals blocked the highway demanding the installation of
speed breakers. This has resulted in a traffic jam stretching across at least 6
kilometers on both sides of the highway.
