Law Minister Md Asaduzzaman said the government is taking initiatives to dismantle all business syndicates across the country to ensure farmers’ benefit.
He made these remarks on Saturday morning after inspecting the wholesale jute and onion markets and warehouses in Shailkupa, Jhenaidah.
Asaduzzaman added that farmers have long been deprived of fair prices for their products, and for this reason, he spoke directly with onion and jute farmers to hear their complaints.
He noted that the Special Powers Act would be applied against market syndicates and hoarding. According to the Special Powers Act of 1974, the maximum punishment for hoarding is the death penalty.
Asaduzzaman warned that those who engage in hoarding should do so carefully. Authorities are monitoring and controlling markets.
Various agricultural officers and party activists were present during the inspection.
