At least eight people were allegedly injured in a clash between protesting students and transport workers in Dinajpur on Tuesday as demonstrations continued over demands for the resignation of Education Minister A.N.M. Ehsanul Hoque Milon and the suspension of the ongoing HSC examinations.
According to both sides, several people were injured during the confrontation, although police said they could not confirm the number of injured people.
The incident occurred around noon in the Nimanagar-Fulbari Bus Stand area of Dinajpur town.
Around 12:00 pm, students from various educational institutions in the district blocked both the road and railway lines in protest against the government's decision to continue HSC examinations despite adverse weather conditions. The protesters also demanded the education minister's resignation.
Witnesses said transport workers accused the students of vandalizing a bus belonging to Rahi Enterprise around 1:45 pm. In response, the workers parked buses across the road, creating a counter-blockade.
The situation later escalated into a clash between the two groups. Students claimed that five of their fellow protesters were injured, while transport workers said three of their members were hurt.
Dinajpur Kotwali Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Nurnabi told Agami'r Shomoy at around 4:00 pm that the students had suspended their protest and that both rail and road traffic had returned to normal.
Commenting on the incident, the OC said there had been altercations between the students and transport workers but that he could not confirm reports of a clash or injuries.
