A brick chip struck a vehicle in Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s convoy on Monday as he traveled to Barishal.
Madaripur Superintendent of Police (SP) Md Habibur Alam confirmed the matter. The incident took place around 8:36 am on Monday in the Sadhu’s Bridge area of Madaripur Sadar Upazila.
SP Habibur told Agamir Somoy, “Our operation is ongoing to catch whoever threw the brick at the PM’s convoy.”
He added, “It cannot be said with certainty at this moment whether it was thrown intentionally or if a piece of brick flew up and hit the vehicle after being crushed under the wheels of another vehicle.”
Earlier, a video clip of the incident has circulated on social media. The footage shows a large gathering of BNP leaders and activists on both sides of the highway to welcome the PM.
As the convoy reached the Sadhu’s Bridge area, a brick chip struck the front windshield of a Special Security Force (SSF) vehicle just after the bus carrying Tarique had passed. Multiple security vehicles were positioned both in front of and behind the PM’s bus at the time of the incident.
