Education Minister Briefing Prime Minister on Overall Situation

Amid an intensified movement by HSC examinees, Education Adviser Dr. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon has held a meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. During the meeting, the education adviser is briefing the prime minister in detail on the overall situation. The meeting began Tuesday afternoon at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.
The students took to the streets mainly demanding the education adviser’s resignation over the holding of the HSC and equivalent examinations during adverse weather conditions and his reference to examinees as ‘farm chickens.’ After ending a road blockade program at the Science Lab intersection in the capital, demanding the education adviser’s resignation and three other demands, the protesters went to the University of Dhaka. From there, they laid siege to the Dhaka Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board.
Later, at 4:30 pm, they again staged a protest while taking position at the Science Lab intersection. There, they issued an ultimatum until the evening, demanding the education adviser’s resignation, an apology for his remarks and fulfillment of their three-point demands. Later, around 5 pm, they marched toward Parliament. According to the latest reports, they are still staging a sit-in in front of Parliament.
During the protest, students chanted various slogans, including, “Who are you, who am I? Farm chickens,” “Who said it, who said it? The Education Adviser,” “One point, one demand — The Education Adviser’s resignation,” “Light it up, light it up — Set the fire ablaze,” and “Compromise or struggle? Struggle, struggle.”
They were also seen carrying placards demanding the postponement of the examinations and the resignation of the education adviser.
Earlier, students blocked Mirpur Road and staged a protest from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm During that time, traffic on the road remained suspended. Later, one group of students moved toward Dhaka College while another headed to TSC. Traffic resumed on the road an hour later.
Students from 12 to 15 educational institutions, including Dhaka City College, Dhaka Ideal College, Government Bangla College, Siddheshwari Girls’ College, Lalmatia School and College, Rajarbag Police Lines School and College, and BAF Shaheen College, took part in the blockade.
