Police have arrested a madrasa teacher on charges of raping two students in Jaintiapur, Sylhet on Wednesday.
Shahporan (R) Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Ferdous Ahmad confirmed the matter. The teacher has been identified as Fayzul Haq, 45. He served as a teacher in the Hifz department of a madrasa in the Peererbazar area of Sadar upazila, while his home is located in Jaintiapur.
Police produced him before the Sylhet Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbubur Rahman Bhuiyan ordered him sent to jail after showing him arrested in the rape case.
OC Ferdous said the two students, aged 8 and 10, recently returned home from the madrasa and refused to go back. When guardians asked for the reason, the children alleged that they had to visit Fayzul’s room every night, where they were beaten if they refused to go and raped upon entering the room.
He added a relative of one student then filed a case against Fayzul. He was a residential teacher at that madrasa. After the case was filed, he left the madrasa and went to his home in Jaintiapur.
Fayzul admitted to the allegations during preliminary interrogation and police initiated steps for the medical examination of the two victims.
