“You are aware that, recently, several children have tragically died of measles. For several years, measles and rubella vaccines were not imported from abroad. The responsibility was not properly fulfilled by those entrusted with it. This is a very serious offence.”
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman made the remarks on Monday afternoon while inaugurating a nationwide measles-rubella vaccination campaign at Ziaur Rahman Gram Hospital in Bagbari area of Bogura. He referred to recent child deaths caused by measles while launching the government initiative.
The BNP chairperson said, “We have formally launched the measles and rubella program here. After taking office, when this crisis emerged, the government immediately procured the necessary medicines. We have collected these vaccines through UNICEF. We are hopeful that through the vaccination program, we will be able to protect children from such incidents.”
Earlier in the morning, Tarique Rahman arrived in Bogura city and inaugurated several development projects, including the announcement of a city corporation. After participating in multiple programs, he reached the Gabtali Bagbari area around 1:30 pm.
At Noshipur, the Choukirdah canal excavation program was inaugurated. Symbolic family cards were handed over to women. Later, a meeting was held with the management committee and doctors of Ziaur Rahman Gram Hospital.
Prime Minister’s spouse Dr Zubaida Rahman was present on the occasion.
