Jamaat-e-Islami and NCP's announcement of a long march towards Chittagong in September is actually paving the way for the Awami League to return to power in December, claimed Rashed Khan, Political Assistant (Secretary) to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

He also said, "Jamaat MP Abdullah Mohammad Taher has said that the BNP government is treating the opposition worse than the Awami League did. I condemn the remarks made by the Jamaat leader."

Rashed Khan made these remarks on Friday afternoon after a reception programme held at the playground of Muraridah Government Primary School in Sadar Upazil of Jhenaidah.

He further said, "Jamaat and NCP MPs are demanding the same privileges in parliament as ruling party MPs. Are they not getting those privileges? Jamaat could not even unlock the door of their office for 17 years. Now they are dreaming of toppling the government and coming to power, with the Awami League on their side. The people will not allow Jamaat-NCP's dream to come true."

Earlier in the afternoon, the reception programme for Rashed Khan was attended by Jhenaidah district BNP president M.A. Majid, general secretary Zahiduzzaman Mona, vice-president Akhtaruzzaman, Munshi Kamal Azad Pannu, along with leaders and activists from BNP and its affiliated organizations.
