A youth has attempted to file a case against the FIFA President and a referee, alleging rigging a match to ensure Egypt’s defeat against Argentina in Noakhali.
Sudharam Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Kamrul Islam confirmed the matter on Wednesday. The youth has been identified as Md Rakib, 22. He demanded Tk 5 crore in compensation. Police turned him away.
In Rakib’s written complaint, he said many locals were watching the World Cup match between Egypt and Argentina on television on Tuesday. He alleged that from the start, the referee and the FIFA President resorted to various forms of fraud and biased behavior with the aim of pre-planned favoring of a specific team.
Rakib claimed, “Immediately after Egypt took the lead with a spectacular goal in the 14th minute, referee François Letexier became enraged at the instigation of the FIFA President. Just 5 minutes later, he gave Argentina a completely unfair penalty to equalize the game.
“Later, in the 25th minute of the match, the referee initially accepted another valid goal by the Egyptian team but mysteriously declared it canceled just 3 minutes later, which broke the hearts of millions of Egypt supporters.”
The complaint further alleged that in the final stages, the referee intentionally harassed Egyptian players with consecutive yellow cards and unfairly issued a red card to Egypt’s head coach to break the team’s morale.
Rakib argued that the irreparable loss makes it urgent to realize Tk 5 crore in compensation and bring the defendants to justice.
OC Kamrul said, “We do not have the scope to take this complaint. When the boy was explained this, he left with the complaint.”
However, Rakib announced that he will not stop here and intends to take the matter to court and organize protest programs, including human chains.
