The spokesperson for Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ismaeil Baghaei, has strongly condemned the remarks made by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, who had said that NATO's European member states supported and assisted the United States during the Iran war. Furthermore, Baghaei accused European nations of being directly involved in the conflict.
Speaking at the NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, on Wednesday local time, Rutte defended the latest US strikes on Iran, describing them as "absolutely necessary."
In response, Baghaei wrote on the social media platform X that Mark Rutte's repeated admissions regarding Europe's deliberate involvement in the US-Israeli aggressive war against Iran only prove that they were not neutral in this brutal and illegal aggression.
He further added that those who provided their territory, military bases, and infrastructure to make these aggressions happen cannot evade their accountabilities in this unprovoked war.
Previously, in March, Rutte had also mentioned that NATO countries supplied logistics to the United States during the Iran war. He added that four to five thousand US aircraft operated from European bases during the first six weeks of the conflict.
