Sajek Resorts Waive Rent For 600 Tourists Trapped by Floods

Floodwaters have trapped at least 600 tourists in Rangamati’s Sajek Valley after the district administration suspended entry and stays indefinitely on Tuesday.
Sajek Resort Owners Association said no rent will be charged for the stranded tourists’ stay. Tourists may remain in their respective resorts free of charge, though they must bear the cost of water.
Sajek Resort Owners Association President Suparno Deb Barman added, “The tourists who had bookings for 6 and 7 July were scheduled to return on Tuesday. However, due to water rising on the road at two locations in the Machalong Bazar and Baghaihat Bazar areas, they could not return in the morning escort.”
He said, “If the water does not recede from the road, the tourists can stay in their respective resorts. They will not have to pay any room rent for this. However, since Sajek is located on a hill, water supply there is expensive. Therefore, they only have to bear the water costs.”
Baghaichari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Amena Marjan the administration is monitoring the situation to ensure that tourists can return safely once the water levels on the roads subside.
