Mugging video behind Chittagong Police Station goes viral

A road passes right along the boundary wall of the Kotwali Police Station in Chittagong city. Traffic and pedestrians on this street are easily visible directly through the police station windows. Yet, early in the morning on this very road, a rickshaw passenger was held up at knifepoint and mugged. A video capturing the incident has spread rapidly across social media.
Kotwali Police Station OC Abu Zayed Mohammad Najmun Nur told Agamir Somoy that the video has come to their attention. However, no formal complaint has been filed with them regarding the 'mugging'. The police have initiated an investigation on their own accord and are actively searching for the victim.
The clip of the robbery began circulating on Facebook on Saturday morning. Police confirmed that the incident took place on Satish Babu Lane in the city's Patharghata area.
In the video, the victim is seen riding a hand-drawn rickshaw. A bag placed near his feet suggests he was returning from grocery shopping. Two muggers armed with knives stopped the rickshaw and began snatching his money and belongings. The attackers were also seen struggling and tugging at him when he couldn't quickly pull out what was in his right pocket.
At one point, one of the muggers used a knife to slash the victim's right pocket. The other threatened the passenger with a knife. The helpless passenger kept pleading in a distressed voice, saying, "Hey brother, I'm giving it to you." The rickshaw driver looked on helplessly.
Seeing the incident unfold, residents from nearby apartment buildings began shouting. The muggers then grabbed the passenger's mobile phone and cash before fleeing the scene in a battery-powered auto-rickshaw. A few pedestrians and local residents chased after the vehicle while shouting to catch them, but they were unable to stop ther muggers.
OC Abu Zayed said, "We do not yet know the exact time when the mugging took place. We are looking into it."
