Argentine Ambassador Interested in Watching Match at CU Campus

Argentine Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcelo Carlos Cesa
The 2026 FIFA World Cup has generated widespread excitement at the University of Chittagong (CU) campus. The students’ overwhelming enthusiasm has even reached faraway Argentina. Now, Argentine Ambassador to Bangladesh Marcelo Carlos Cesa has expressed interest in joining the excitement on campus.
If weather conditions permit, he will visit the University of Chittagong on July 12 to watch the World Cup quarterfinal match between Argentina and Switzerland.
The ambassador wants to enjoy his country’s match sitting with students in front of the giant screen on the CU campus. The embassy has already contacted the university authorities.
University of Chittagong Assistant Proctor Kamrul Hossain confirmed the matter, saying, “The embassy has contacted us and expressed interest in watching the match. If weather conditions permit, the Argentine ambassador will come to the University of Chittagong campus and watch the Argentina-Switzerland match sitting with the students. Necessary preparations are being made for this purpose.”
During the ongoing World Cup, matches involving all the major teams are being screened on a giant screen at the Shaheed Minar premises on campus. In particular, Argentina and Brazil matches have generated the most excitement. However, despite the elimination of teams such as Brazil and Germany, enthusiasm surrounding Argentina remains strong at the university. If the Argentine ambassador attends the upcoming match, the university authorities themselves will become involved in organizing the giant-screen viewing. Until now, the screenings have been organized by student organizations.
Notably, Chattogram has been experiencing heavy rainfall for nearly a week. Flooding has been reported in the city and several upazilas. The Baro Dighir Par area of the Chattogram-Hathazari Road, which leads to the university, went underwater. Water began receding on Friday, and the situation is now showing signs of improvement.
