Prices surge: Cucumbers at Tk 130, eggs at Tk 140

The prices of vegetables like cucumbers and eggplants have exceeded Tk 100 in markets. The prices of other vegetables are also hovering near that mark.
However, the prices of radishes and papayas are slightly lower, while okra and ribbed gourds are available for under Tk 100.
During visits to various markets in Dhaka on Thursday, it was observed that eggplants are being sold for Tk 90-120 per kg, and cucumbers are priced at Tk 120-130. Consumers are having to pay Tk 140 to buy a dozen eggs.
Among other vegetables in the market, bitter gourd is selling for Tk 80-100 per kg, pointed gourd and okra for Tk 70-80, ribbed gourd for Tk 80-90, and snake gourd for Tk 70-80.
Moreover, radishes were seen selling at Tk 40-50 per kg, papaya at Tk 30-40, green chilies at Tk 160-180, and bottle gourds at Tk 80-90 per piece. In the spice market, onions are selling for Tk 35-45 per kg, while garlic is priced between Tk 100 and 140.
In the rice market, fine rice (Nazir/Miniket) is being sold for Tk 72 per kg, and coarse rice (Swarna/China Irri) for Tk 50. However, depending on the quality, coarse rice is selling for Tk 50-60 per kg, while Paijam and Lata rice are priced between Tk 55-68.
At the meat
and fish markets, broiler chicken is selling for Tk 190-200 per kg, Sonali
chicken for Tk 340-350, and hybrid Sonali chicken for Tk 310-320. Rui fish
weighing one to one and a half kilograms is priced around Tk 350 per kg, while
larger Rui fish are selling for nearly Tk 400.
