Theft case accused escapes by jumping from court building

A theft case accused who was in jail custody escaped by jumping from the second-floor balcony of a court building in Sirajganj.
The incident took place at around 11:30 am Thursday (September 3) at the Sirajganj Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. The accused, identified as Momin, has been on the run since then. Police are conducting a search to arrest him.
Momin is the son of Sabur Ali from Kobdaspada neighborhood in Sirajganj Sadar upazila. He was brought to court Thursday to appear on the scheduled hearing date of the case.
Police said Momin had been kept in the lockup on the second floor of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. When another accused was being brought into the lockup, he pushed a police officer and came out. He then jumped from the balcony and escaped as there were no railings there.
Sirajganj Court Police Inspector Rowshan Yazdani confirmed the incident at around 4 pm Thursday.
He said, “After bringing him to the court, he was kept in the lockup on the second floor of the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court. Later, when another accused was being brought into the lockup, he pushed the police and came out. He then took advantage of the absence of any railings on the balcony and escaped by jumping.”
He further said, “The matter has been verbally reported to Sadar Police Station. They are looking for him. A case will be filed over the incident.”
