Road Transport and Bridges and Railways Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has said the Awami League is now abandoned, boycotted by the people, and banned because it chose to engage in politics as an adversary of the people. He made these remarks to the journalists today (Tuesday) after a tree plantation program in Sirajdikhan of Munshiganj district.
Referring implicitly to the Awami League, he said, "It is not desirable that the activities of a banned party come to light. Banned means banned. They have been banned because the nation wanted it. They have been forced to flee the country. The people launched a mass uprising precisely to ban them. The people and the law give legitimacy to political parties. The people have banned them, and the law has also banned them."
Highlighting various government development plans, the Minister said that unused lands under various ministries have already been identified. Among these, plans are in place to establish solar power plants on lands larger than three acres. The electricity generated from these plants will be used locally or supplied to the national grid. On the other hand, where there is scope for infrastructure development, suitable development projects will be implemented. Lands smaller than three acres but larger than one acre are being considered for use in public welfare activities. Lands smaller than one acre will be used for tree plantation to improve the environment and maintain ecological balance.
Referring to the government's commitment to plant 25 crore (250 million) trees across the country over five years, Rabiul Alam said that specific programs are in place across various ministries to accomplish this goal. As part of this initiative, the Railways Ministry will plant 1 lakh 60 thousand (160,000) saplings this year alone.
Others present at the Sirajdikhan program included Member of Parliament for Munshiganj-1 constituency Sheikh Md. Abdullah, Deputy Commissioner Syeda Nurmohal Ashrafi, Police Superintendent Minhazul Alam, along with other senior administration officials.
