JCD Issues 10 Flood Directives

Continuous rainfall and hill runoff from India have worsened the flood situation in several districts across the country, including Chattogram, Khagrachhari, Rangamati, Bandarban, Cox’s Bazar, Sylhet, Moulvibazar and Sunamganj. In this situation, a 10-point emergency directive has been issued for leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) to strengthen rescue operations, ensure the safety of lives and property, and intensify relief activities for affected people.
The directives were announced in a statement issued on Friday by the organization’s Office Secretary (with the status of vice president), Md. Jahangir Alam.
The statement said leaders and activists of the relevant units must actively participate in rescue, relief, medical services and post-flood rehabilitation activities to stand beside the affected people. The directives were issued by JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir.
The directives are as follows:
- Maximum cooperation must be extended to move people to safe places. Arrangements must also be made to move livestock to safe locations.
- Each unit must keep the required number of rescue teams ready to take part in rescue operations.
- Relief activities must be carried out in coordination with local BNP leaders. Dry and cooked food, oral saline, alum or water purification tablets, and necessary medicines must be kept ready.
- Necessary measures must be taken in coordination with local people to ensure the security of the homes of families who have gone to shelters.
- Necessary assistance, including educational materials, must be provided to students in the post-flood period.
- Women, children and the elderly must be given priority in all activities.
- A medical team will be formed by the central committee to provide medical services in the affected areas.
- Leaders and activists must actively participate in post-flood rehabilitation activities, including the reconstruction of damaged embankments.
- In anticipation of outbreaks of diseases such as typhoid, diarrhea and dysentery after the floods, unit-based medical teams must be formed and preparations must be taken to provide necessary medicines and medical services.
- JCD Central Committee President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir will coordinate the overall activities. Instructions have been given to send information on all activities undertaken to assist flood-affected people to the central office on a unit basis.
