NCP has permanently expelled Ataullah Shah, joint member secretary of its Gazipur Metropolitan unit, after police arrested him in Dhaka's Jatrabari on suspicion of involvement with an extremist organization.
The party announced the decision in an expulsion order signed by Sadia Farzana, a member of the NCP Office Cell, on Tuesday. It later published the letter on its verified Facebook page late that night. Ataullah Shah was in police remand when the party expelled him.
The expulsion order said the party had received serious allegations that Shah had engaged in activities contrary to its principles and ideology. In accordance with the party constitution and organizational rules, it permanently removed him from the post of joint member secretary of the Gazipur Metropolitan convening committee, stripped him of all organizational responsibilities, and revoked his primary membership. The order took effect immediately.
Police detained Ataullah Shah and five others from Balur Math area in Mini Cox's Bazar area of Jatrabari at around 6:30 am on July 5. Police later produced them before a court and sought a seven-day remand after showing them arrested under Section 54. The court granted a three-day remand for all six.
In the remand petition, police said they had received intelligence that several individuals had gathered there for training to carry out activities for an extremist organization. Although several suspects fled during the raid, police arrested Ataullah Shah and five others.
