During the first 11 months (July–May) of the current fiscal year (2026–27), the country's revenue deficit has reached Tk81,442 crore. According to the latest data from the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the agency collected Tk3,60,642 crore in revenue during this period, against a target of Tk4,42,084 crore. In the first 11 months of the 2024–25 fiscal year, revenue collection stood at Tk3,27,785 crore.
This implies that revenue collection in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year increased by Tk32,856 crore, or 10 percent, compared to the same period last fiscal year.
The total revised target for the current fiscal year was Tk5,03,000 crore. The revenuje target achievement rate in the first 11 months stands at 81.58 percent.
In the first 11 months of the 2025–26 fiscal year, the growth in revenue collection for the Customs wing was 7.8 percent, the VAT wing saw a growth of 10.5 percent, and the Income Tax wing recorded a growth of 12.54 percent.
With Tk29,311 crore collected in the first 20 days of June 2026, the total revenue collection up to June 20, 2026, reached Tk3,89,953 crore, which is higher than the total collection of Tk3,70,843 crore in the previous fiscal year.
NBR officials hope that by collecting an additional Tk25,000 crore in the last 10 days of June, it will be possible to achieve a historic high of Tk4,15,000 crore in revenue collection this fiscal year. In that case, even if the revenue collection for the current fiscal year falls short of the target by Tk88,000 crore, it will still be Tk43,157 crore higher than the total collection of the previous fiscal year.
To accelerate the pace of revenue collection, three separate task forces have already been formed with field-level officials from the Income Tax, VAT, and Customs wings. These task forces have already taken various effective initiatives to increase tax collection alongside fast-tracking procedures in the Appeal, Tribunal, High Court, Supreme Court, and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) processes.
The overall activities of the National Board of Revenue have gained momentum due to fruitful and effective initiatives. These include recovering revenue by uncovering tax evasion, swiftly resolving automatically selected audit cases to create claims and collect taxes, monitoring source income tax and withholding VAT collection activities, strengthening post-clearance audit and risk management activities at customs houses, and simultaneously conducting income tax and VAT audits for high-risk taxpayers. The National Board of Revenue's rigorous efforts to mobilize the necessary revenue for the country will continue.
