Former Awami League MP Nayeb Ali Joardar arrested

Police have arrested former Member of Parliament and Jhenaidah district Awami League vice-president Nayeb Ali Joardar. He was arrested on charges of planning sabotage and sponsoring a "Jhatika" (flash) rally of the Chhatra League in the area.
In addition, four more individuals of the Awami League and its affiliated organizations were arrested during operations in various areas of Jhenaidah city and Shailkupa Upazila.
They were arrested early Saturday morning during operations in the Arappur area of Jhenaidah municipality and various locations in Shailkupa Upazila.
The arrestees are: former MP and district Awami League vice-president Nayeb Ali Joardar (72), and from Shailkupa – Badsha Alamgir (56), son of the late Golam Kibria from Dudhsor village; Mazibul Islam (57), son of the late Nur Ali Mondol from Balapara village; Al Nahian Shakib (19), son of Montu Sheikh from Gosaidanga village; and Md. Hasibul Islam (25), son of the late Kubad Ali from Mahishakhola village.
Police said that Jhenaidah district police are conducting special operations to maintain overall law and order and avoid any untoward incidents centring August 15.
Shailkupa Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Humayun Kabir Mollah said the arrestees are accused of maintaining regular communication with Sheikh Hasina, who is in India, and conspiring to create chaos and sabotage in the area. Additionally, the detained individuals are accused of planning and sponsoring a recent flash rally of the banned Chhatra League organization in Sarutia Union.
OC Humayun Kabir Mollah further stated that a case has been filed against the five arrested individuals at Shailkupa Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act. When the accused were produced before the court on Saturday afternoon, the court ordered them to be sent to jail.
