Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on the media to support efforts to build a humane state and promote human values among the public.

He made the appeal during a meeting with electronic media executives and news heads on Monday at the Public Administration office under the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat. The meeting was held as part of the country-building initiative and took place from 1:45 pm to 3:30 pm.

Following the meeting, Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli told reporters that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said the government does not want to talk only about politics all the time, everywhere. He added that discussions should not be limited to politics alone, as the country also has an economy, social issues, and human values that need attention.

“He said that nowadays we see incidents such as a dog being killed, and people simply sitting and recording videos. When animals are being killed or people are being killed, we need to strengthen our human values. We need to strengthen our social awareness. The Prime Minister emphasized the role of journalists in this regard,” the Press Secretary said.

The Press Secretary added that the Prime Minister listened to the journalists and said he would continue to engage in discussions and exchanges of views with the media in the coming days.

Mohona TV News Head Rashedul Haque said that they discussed the current state of the media and various related issues with the Prime Minister. He said they were able to present their views openly in a cordial environment. He added that the Prime Minister sought media cooperation to help build Bangladesh into a livable and truly humane country, not like Europe or America.

Rashedul Haque said that demands including the formation of a media commission, a separate salary structure for electronic media, improved working conditions for journalists, and job security were raised before the Prime Minister.

Representatives from various media outlets, including Bangla Vision’s Abdul Hai Siddiqui, Somoy TV’s Jubayer Babu, DBC’s Loton Ikram, Mohona’s Rashedul Haque, Ekattor TV’s Shafiq Ahmed, GTV’s Gausul Azam Bipul, Desh TV’s Mohiuddin, News24’s Shariful Islam, Channel 24’s Zahirul Alam, Jamuna TV’s Fahim Ahmed, Nagorik TV’s Irfanul Haque Nahid, RTV’s Ilyas Hossain, and Bangla TV’s MM Badsha, among others, spoke at the meeting. Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapan and Prime Minister’s Press Secretary Saleh Shibli also addressed the session.

The meeting was attended by State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Yaser Khan Chowdhury, Prime Minister’s Advisers Dr. Zahidur Rahman and Mahdi Amin, and Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Ruman. Later, the Prime Minister hosted a lunch for senior media officials.
