Top international leaders have welcomed the announced ceasefire and understanding agreement between the United States and Iran. The United Nations, various European countries, and regional powers in the Middle East have hailed the understanding as a significant step toward establishing peace.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres described the announced peace agreement between the US and Iran as a "crucial step." He stated that the agreement establishes an immediate and lasting ceasefire, the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, and a framework for future negotiations—marking important progress toward a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
French President Emmanuel Macron also welcomed the agreement. "This understanding between the United States and Iran is the result of diplomatic efforts," he said, calling on all parties to implement it quickly and fully. In his view, the Strait of Hormuz must be reopened unconditionally, which is essential for the international economy and regional stability.
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer said his country is ready to cooperate in technical discussions between the US and Iran. He emphasized ensuring toll-free and free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and stated that the detailed terms of the agreement need to be finalized quickly.
Welcoming the understanding, Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani praised the role of the mediators. He thanked Pakistan and other regional and international partners, adding that Qatar will continue to support this peace process.
Meanwhile, US Vice President JD Vance said this understanding could herald a new era in the Middle East. He stated that this US-led initiative has created an opportunity to transform the regional situation and could lead to stabilization of energy prices. He asserted that Iran will never be able to acquire nuclear weapons. At the same time, he expressed hope that a new chapter of peaceful relations would soon begin.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio welcomed the announcement of the agreement, calling it "a significant achievement of American leadership."
Additionally, the Iranian embassy in Turkey reacted on social media, calling it "the beginning of a new era in the Middle East."
However, analysts note that some doubts remain. The two parties have not agreed on a final comprehensive deal, and there is still uncertainty regarding implementation. Therefore, whether this announcement is progress toward real peace or merely a political tactic will depend on implementation in the days ahead. (Source: Al Jazeera and Reuters)
