Two More Children Die of Measles-Like Symptoms

Two more children have died from measles and measles-like symptoms in Bangladesh over the past 24 hours, from 8 am Saturday to 8 am Sunday. The total death toll has now reached 585. During the same period, health authorities identified 1,377 new cases with measles-related symptoms.
The Health Emergency Operation Center and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed the information on Sunday afternoon.
According to the statement, two people died from measles-like symptoms in the last 24 hours. Since March 15, a total of 495 people died from suspected measles, while 90 people have died from confirmed measles. Over the past 24 hours, 1,324 children developed suspected measles symptoms. Since March 15, the total number of suspected measles cases in the country has reached 70,936.
In addition, health authorities confirmed 53 new measles cases in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed measles patients to 9,049.
Since March 15, hospitals have admitted 56,886 patients with suspected measles. During the same period, 52,841 patients recovered and were discharged from hospitals.
Meanwhile, more than 7,000 children have received treatment after being admitted to various hospitals in the Barishal Division with measles-like symptoms over the past five months. During the same period, 48 children in the division died from measles and related symptoms.
Dr. Lokman Hakim, acting director of the Barishal Divisional Health Directorate, confirmed the information on Sunday.
Speaking to Agamir Somoy, he said, “Over the past five months, 7,652 children received treatment after being admitted to various hospitals and health complexes across the Barishal Division. Among them, 7,261 children were treated for measles-like symptoms, while 225 children received treatment after contracting measles. A total of 6,657 children recovered and returned home. In the division, 45 people died from measles-related symptoms and three children died from measles.”
