Microbus crashes into covered van while overtaking, 4 killed

Four passengers were killed and seven others were injured in a collision between a microbus and a covered van in Karnaphuli, Chattogram.
The accident occurred around 1:45 am Saturday at the entrance to the Chattogram Cox’s Bazar Highway in the College Bazar area of the upazila.
The deceased were identified as microbus passengers Ferdous Alam, 55, Morshed Akter, 22, and Miftah Akter, 17, and driver Mohammad Munna, 40. They were residents of Eidgah area in Cox’s Bazar.
Quoting locals, Karnaphuli Police Station Officer in Charge Nur Ahmed said the microbus was carrying 11 passengers from Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar. Around 1:45 am at College Bazar, the microbus collided with a covered van while overtaking another vehicle. The microbus went inside the covered van in the collision.
Ferdous and Miftah died at the scene. After being taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital, doctors declared Munna dead.
Chattogram Medical College Hospital Police Outpost Sub Inspector Alauddin Talukdar said Morshed was declared dead on Sunday morning while undergoing treatment in the ICU.
The OC said the injured are receiving treatment at Chattogram Medical College Hospital. Among them are five men and two women. Three of the injured are in critical condition.
