Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain Bakul said the investigation committee formed over the deaths of six newborns at Ad-Din Hospital in the capital has not submitted its report today.
He said a full report will be submitted on next Wednesday. He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Directorate General of Health Services in Mohakhali on Saturday.
The health minister said, “We cannot submit the report today. The committee will submit the report on June 3 because we could not take statements from the grieving mothers present there. That is why the report is not being submitted today. A complete report will be given after collecting their statements.”
Citing preliminary information, Sardar Sakhawat Hossain said, “The air conditioning system remained off for two hours during the incident. There was no ventilation from 2 a.m. to 4 a.m. Strict action will be taken against those responsible based on the investigation report. No one will be spared in this incident.”
He further said that the investigation team is examining the hospital’s overall management, medical services, ward conditions, and the performance of those involved. He added that the actual picture will become clear once the investigation is completed.
Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services, Professor Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas, was present during the briefing.
Earlier on Wednesday night, the bodies of six newborns were handed over to their family members after they submitted applications requesting no post-mortem examinations. A sudden death case was filed at Ramna Police Station by the family of one of the newborns.
