Ad-Din Medical College Hospital has been fined Tk 300,000 following a drive conducted by authorities. On Sunday afternoon, a three-and-a-half-hour operation was carried out by a three-member magistrate team of the Dhaka South City Corporation, during which the fine was imposed.
The penalty was issued over allegations of lacking temperature control meters, serving food to patients in an unhygienic and unclean environment, and irregularities in healthcare service operations.
Executive Magistrate Mohammad Aminul Islam told journalists that the hospital was fined under two separate laws. Of the total amount, Tk 100,000 was imposed under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, while Tk 200,000 was imposed under the Food Safety Act.
He further said the hospital had no temperature control meters in place. He also noted that no labels were found on food stored in refrigerators.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, six children died in the post-operative ward of the hospital’s delivery unit. Following the incident, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare formed a three-member investigation committee. The deaths have since brought allegations of irregularities and mismanagement at the hospital into focus.
