Primary and Mass Education State Minister Bobby Hajjaj has said that the government will introduce a new curriculum at the primary level from 2028.

He said it is impossible to prepare the new generation according to the needs of the modern world using a curriculum that is 50 years old.

He made the remarks on Sunday afternoon at a meeting in Mymensingh, organized by the National Academy for Primary Education. A baseline report on a pilot initiative for developing language skills at the primary level was presented in the meeting.

The state minister said the new curriculum will be modern, skills-based, and practical, and will be introduced in phases from 2028.

According to him, strengthening the foundation of language education at the primary level is crucial. The government is taking integrated initiatives to build reading habits among students, ensure proper language practice, and make education more effective and enjoyable.

Bobby Hajjaj also said emphasis is being placed on making teacher training more effective, introducing student-centred teaching methods, ensuring quality learning materials, and strengthening regular assessment activities.

He also criticized the current textbooks. The state minister said giving a large-sized book to a six-year-old child reduces their interest in learning. He stressed the need for shorter, chapter-based books and a more enjoyable learning environment.

He added that from now on, the main benchmark of primary education will be learning outcomes, or the actual results of student learning.

The meeting was also attended by Shahina Ferdousi, Debabrata Chakraborty and Farid Ahmed, among others.
