Continuous rainfall has triggered severe waterlogging across Dhaka’s low-lying areas, bringing vehicle movement to a near-standstill at four key points - Banani, Dhaka Gate, ECB, and Jamuna Future Park.
Gulshan Division of the Traffic Police confirmed the matter in a special message on Monday. Police requested commuters to use alternative roads.
According to the Gulshan Traffic Division, morning rain has created waterlogging on both the incoming and outgoing sides of the main road adjacent to Dhaka Gate, located after the Banani Graveyard. Consequently, traffic movement on this route is being hampered.
Moreover, vehicles are moving very slowly due to light water accumulation at the exit ramp of the Banani/Kakoli Dhaka Elevated Expressway. Water has collected in front of the Cantonment Girls’ School in the ECB area, forcing vehicles traveling from Mirpur DOHS and Kalshi toward the Matikata Flyover via ECB to move at a snail’s pace.
Meanwhile, on Pragati Sarani, intense congestion and slow traffic have developed on the road in front of Jamuna Future Park due to accumulated rainwater and ongoing Dhaka WASA pipeline work in that area.
Rainfall has continued since the morning, and traffic movement may remain disrupted throughout the day as water lingers on the streets.
Police are stationed on the roads to maintain control over the traffic situation. Traffic Division has advised drivers and pedestrians to avoid these specific routes and utilize alternative roads unless there is an absolute emergency.
