PBI arrests Hafizur again in Tonu murder case

Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) arrested retired army personnel Hafizur Rahman again in connection with the Sohagi Jahan Tonu murder case in Cumilla.
PBI Police Superintendent Abu Yusuf of the confirmed the matter on Saturday at noon.
Following a court order and to prevent Hafizur from fleeing, PBI arrested him from his residence in Keraniganj, Dhaka. The process of sending him to the Cumilla court is underway.
Earlier, on 22 April, Hafizur was arrested in the Tonu murder case and sent to jail; he was later released from prison on 4 August after obtaining bail from the High Court.
However, on 6 August, the Chamber Judge of the Appellate Division stayed the bail granted by the High Court. At the same time, he was ordered to surrender to the court within 24 hours. The court instructed the police to arrest him if he failed to surrender within the specified time.
On 20 March 2016, Tonu went missing after going to a house inside the Cumilla Cantonment for private tutoring. Later, after a search, Tonu’s body was found in a bush near the Powerhouse of the cantonment.
The following day, her father, Yaar Hossain, a retired office assistant of the Cantonment Board, filed a murder case against unidentified suspects at the Cumilla’s Kotwali Model Police Station.
