A court has shown arrested the dismissed former major Sadequl Haque in an Anti-Terrorism Act case on Tuesday.
Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman issued the order. After the hearing, the court directed that Sadequl be sent back to jail. Earlier, a military court sentenced Sadequl to three months of imprisonment on 29 October 2024.
Then, authorities showed him arrested in an Anti-Terrorism Act case at Vatara Police Station on 29 December 2025. While he was still locked up, investigating officer Sub-Inspector Md Chand Ali applied on 7 August to show him arrested in another case involving vehicle arson and anti-terrorism charges.
During the hearing on 10 August, defense lawyer HM Al-Amin said Sadequl was already in prison when the alleged crime occurred. As a result, the judge ordered the Vatara OC and the investigating officer to provide a formal explanation.
Although officials submitted a report with an explanation on 16 August, the court rejected the application to show him arrested in the arson case. However, an application was filed the very next day, to show him arrested in a separate Anti-Terrorism Act case at Khilket Police Station.
According to the case details, police detained several dismissed army personnel near the Khilket Bazar area on 17 May 2025 for engaging in sabotage. The allegations said because they were discharged from service, they used the social media platform called “Sohojoddha” to spread provocative statements against the military.
These actions were reportedly intended to tarnish the image and reputation of the Bangladesh Army and compromise the security of Dhaka Cantonment. In response to these events, Azizul Islam from the Headquarters Logistics Area of Dhaka Cantonment filed a case at Khilket Police Station on 18 May.
