A Dhaka court has shown former social welfare minister Rashed Khan Menon arrested over allegations of irregularities and corruption in teacher recruitment at Dhaka’s Wills Little Flower School and College.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Shahjahan Kabir passed the order following a hearing on Wednesday. The court then ordered him to be sent to jail. Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed a case against Menon.
ACC Prosecutor Delwar Jahan Rumi said the case’s investigating officer, ACC Assistant Director Md Ferdous Rahman, applied to have Menon shown arrested on 30 June.
Police previously arrested Menon, the president of the Workers Party, on 22 August 2024, following the fall of Awami League (AL). He has remained in custody since then.
While he was in jail, on 22 December 2025, ACC filed a case against 20 individuals, including Menon, on charges of recruiting 13 previously known candidates as teachers through irregularities and fraud.
The case description said an illegal recruitment board was formed at Wills Little Flower School and College, despite the special governing committee lacking the legal authority to make appointments.
The board did not include the director general (DG) of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education or his representative, nor were subject-specific teachers present.
Moreover, candidates were permitted to participate without the NTRCA certificates required in the advertisement. Even the candidate who secured the highest marks in the written examination was not allowed to participate in the oral exam.
Appointment and joining letters were issued before the recruitment examination was even completed.
