Proposed 9th pay scale approved by cabinet, salaries rising up to 142%

The government has approved the proposed 9th pay scale. The approval was given at a cabinet meeting held on Monday afternoon, chaired by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
With this approval, the long wait of government employees has come to an end. The government will soon issue a formal notification regarding this matter.
In the new structure, the basic salary in the lowest grade (20th grade) is being increased by 145% to 20,000 taka. On the other hand, the salary in the highest grade (1st grade) is proposed to be increased by 100% to 156,000 taka.
Ministry of Finance sources have said the 9th Pay Scale will be implemented in three phases. The phases will be rolled out from July 1, 2026, to 2027.
Key Figures of the Salary Increase
Lowest grade (20th grade): The current basic salary of 8,250 taka is being increased by 142% to 20,000 taka.
Highest grade (1st grade): The current basic salary of 78,000 taka is proposed to be increased by 100% to 156,000 taka.
Intermediate grades: For the other grades between 1 and 20, proportional salary increases have been proposed, taking inflation and the cost of living into account.
Once this outline presented to the cabinet is finalized, the process of issuing a notification from the Finance Division will begin.
