3 shot in terrorist gunfight in the capital

A shoot-out broke out between terrorists in the capital, leaving three people—including a woman—injured by gunshot wounds. The incident took place around 7:00 PM on Sunday (August 30) in the Munsirtek area of Swamibagh under Gendaria police. The injured have been admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

The injured have been identified as Asha Akhtar (24), a pedestrian; Alamgir (33), a tea vendor; and Siam (18), a pedestrian. The victims claimed they were all innocent bystanders. Siam sustained a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest, Alamgir was shot in the head, and Asha suffered a bullet wound to her right leg. All three reside in the Swamibagh area.

Saidul Islam, the father of the injured Alamgir, said his son was home when someone called him out toward his tea shop. As Alamgir was walking toward the shop from his residence, a gunfight erupted in the area, leaving him with a bullet wound to the head.

A person who brought the victims to the hospital said the shooting broke out between rival drug-peddling terrors. Bystanders, including the shopkeeper and a woman, were caught in the crossfire and wounded.

Confirming the incident, Inspector Md. Faruk, In-charge of the DMCH Police Outpost, said the injured are currently receiving treatment at the emergency department. The concerned police station has been informed of the matter.
