Iran has submitted its response to the latest United States ceasefire proposal through Pakistani mediators, according to the country’s official news agency IRNA, which reported the development on Sunday.
The Iranian outlet said the ongoing negotiations are centered on “ending the war in the region.”
A Pakistani diplomatic source later confirmed to Al Jazeera that Tehran’s response had been “conveyed to the US.”
The move comes after Donald Trump, the US president, said on Wednesday that Iran had one week to reply to Washington’s proposed peace deal. Speaking to Fox News, Trump said Iran appeared open to an agreement.
“They want to make a deal. We’ve had very good talks over the last 24 hours, and it’s very possible that we’ll make a deal,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, later adding that “it’ll be over quickly.”
The talks are being facilitated by Pakistan, as diplomatic efforts continue to de-escalate tensions and seek a broader regional ceasefire involving United States.
