Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has reaffirmed that Turkiye will continue to stand by Pakistan in all circumstances, underscoring the strong and enduring ties between the two countries.
The pledge came during a joint press conference in Istanbul on Saturday following talks with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
During the briefing, the two leaders reiterated their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation and increasing annual trade to $5 billion. They also pledged to deepen collaboration on regional peace, economic development, and strategic partnership.
Erdoğan praised Pakistan’s role in supporting the implementation of the recent US-Iran memorandum of understanding, describing it as a positive step toward peace in the Middle East. He also commended Islamabad's efforts to promote regional peace, stability, and economic development.
The Turkish president said the two sides discussed expanding cooperation in trade, investment, energy, information technology, transportation, critical minerals, and defense.
Prime Minister Shehbaz thanked Erdoğan for Turkiye’s warm hospitality, saying the relationship between the two countries is built on history, trust, and mutual respect. He noted that Turkiye has consistently stood by Pakistan during times of war and natural disasters.
Sharif also said business leaders from both countries have expressed strong interest in expanding trade and investment, reaffirming their shared goal of reaching $5 billion in bilateral trade.
Addressing the situation in the Middle East, Erdoğan stressed that lasting peace cannot be achieved without the support of regional countries. He also warned that Israel must not be allowed to undermine the US-Iran peace initiative.
Analysts say the meeting reflects the growing strategic and economic partnership between Pakistan and Turkiye amid changing geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East.
