Tech professional leaves Canada to stay with his elderly parents

He had a successful career abroad. Yet, a technology officer decided to return his home country to be with his ageing parents. His story has touched many hearts and is drawing widespread praise on social media.
The tech professional, based in Bengaluru, India, is named Ramesh NN. About six years ago, he quit his job in Canada and returned to India to spend more time with his elderly parents.
Ramesh, who is the Engineering Director at the IT firm Corsentric, shared in a LinkedIn post that he wanted to be physically present with his parents rather than just watching family moments through video calls from afar. So, he decided to leave the comforts of life abroad and return home.
Ramesh wrote that at a certain point in life, he realised that spending time with family cannot be postponed indefinitely.
He noted that this decision meant giving up a comfortable life overseas. In life, one often has to choose between comfort and relationships, certainty and responsibility, or global opportunities and being beside one's family.
After returning to the country, his family settled in Bengaluru. Ramesh said that being part of everyday small family moments—instead of just seeing them on video calls—has transformed his life and perspective. Being with his parents made him feel his roots once again.
Apart from family reasons, Bengaluru's tech sector also opened new doors of opportunity for him. He said the city's dynamism, skilled workforce, and startup culture have given him renewed energy. This made his return feel not like a professional setback, but a new opportunity.
However, returning home came with challenges such as infrastructural issues, lifestyle changes, and having to readjust to various systems. Still, he believes the joy of being with his family far outweighs these difficulties.
Ramesh's experience has sparked a massive response on social media, with many praising his decision. One person commented, "In 2015, I too returned to India from the USA. The first year was the toughest. But over time, I adapted to everything and built my family here."
Another wrote, "Success is not just about where you live. What matters more is the impact you leave behind and how you nurture your relationships."
Yet another commented, "To me, family is the most important thing. I am truly happy that you made the decision to return home."
