Discussions held with IMF delegation on stock market, green bond and beyond

The Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC) held a meeting with the delegation of the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) Climate Policy Diagnostic Technical Assistance Mission.
The discussions covered various aspects of strengthening sustainable finance, including the development of the green bond, sustainability bond, and other thematic bond markets in the country's stock market.
The meeting was held today (Wednesday) at the BSEC commission conference room, according to a press release issued by the commission.
BSEC Commissioner Tanwir Habib Rahman participated in the meeting along with senior officials from relevant departments. On the other hand, a six-member delegation led by Supachol Supachalasia, Team Leader of the IMF's Climate Policy Diagnostic Technical Assistance Mission, was present.
During the meeting, detailed discussions were held on various aspects of expanding the market for green bonds, sustainability bonds, and other thematic bonds in Bangladesh's stock market. Additionally, both sides exchanged views on the progress of the Sustainable Finance Taxonomy, the verification process for bond issuance, impact reporting, the development of the external review system, the readiness of potential issuers, and the assessment of investor demand.
Furthermore, emphasis was placed on the need to further strengthen coordination among relevant regulatory bodies and development partner organizations.
The discussions highlighted the need to further expand the stock market's role in strengthening Bangladesh's sustainable finance and climate-resilient investment framework.
BSEC stated that fruitful discussions were held on various issues related to capacity building, policy development, and strengthening market infrastructure in light of international best practices to achieve this goal.
