Jamaat expels MP Gazi Nazrul over video Controversy

Jamaat e Islami has expelled Member of Parliament Gazi Nazrul over controversial activities. The party announced the decision in a statement issued Wednesday afternoon.
The statement said an emergency meeting of the Central Executive Council of Jamaat e Islami was held at 4 pm Wednesday. The meeting took place at the official residence of the Leader of the Opposition on Mintoo Road in the capital and was chaired by the party’s Ameer, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, MP. Members of the Central Executive Council were present at the meeting.
It said, “Recently, an organizational investigation into matters published in various media outlets regarding Gazi Nazrul Islam, Member of Parliament from Satkhira 4 constituency, found his moral misconduct to be proven. Therefore, it was decided to expel him under Article 62 of the party constitution.”
The statement also said, “At the same time, it was decided to immediately inform the Bangladesh Election Commission of his expulsion from the organization.”
