What to know
President Donald Trump, other administration officials and members of Congress were evacuated from the room at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner tonight following a shooting.
One person is in custody in connection with the incident at the Washington Hilton hotel, and the president and "all protectees" are safe, the Secret Service said.
The agency said it was investigating a "shooting incident near the main magnetometer screening area." The dinner will be rescheduled within 30 days, Trump and Weijia Jiang, the president of the White House Correspondents' Association, said.
Police said it's believed the suspect was a guest at the Washington Hilton Hotel where the White House Correspondents' Association dinner was being held.
"So preliminary information, we do believe he was a guest here at the hotel. We have secured a room here in the hotel, and again, we'll go through the appropriate procedures to determine what was inside there," Carroll said.
He said the designated area is secure, and stressed the suspect is believed to have acted alone. (Source: NBC News)
