U.S. forces have carried out airstrikes on Iran in the midst of ongoing negotiations. Tehran has claimed this is a clear and wanton violation of the ceasefire agreement between the two countries.
Strongly condemning the U.S. attack, Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has directly blamed the "deal-breaking" U.S. administration.
Sharply criticizing the U.S. move, Ibrahim Azizi, head of the National Security Committee of Iran's parliament, said on social media: "The United States has once again attacked Iran in the middle of negotiations."
Azizi issued a warning, stating that such a blatant violation of the ceasefire will, as always, force them (the U.S.) to retreat and regret.
"This old game of shifting blame will no longer work," the Iranian parliamentary committee chief cautioned the U.S. administration.
In response to the U.S. attack, the IRGC Navy claims to have launched a counterattack targeting U.S. military positions in the region. However, no detailed information about this counter-offensive was provided.
Reacting to the latest U.S. strike, the IRGC issued a strong warning in a statement, saying: "If such aggression is repeated, our response this time will be much more extensive and stronger than before."
Prior to this, on Thursday, the U.S. had accused Iran of a drone attack on a commercial cargo ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement that Iran's actions have endangered international trade and threatened freedom of navigation in the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. military further stated that it will continue to coordinate and provide assistance to ensure the safe passage of commercial ships traveling through the Strait of Hormuz.
