Snake incidents are becoming an unusual talking point at the World Cup.
The first such case was reported by Switzerland, where players at their San Diego base camp were alarmed after spotting venomous snakes near the training area.
Now Germany have also encountered a snake at their base camp training ground. The team discovered a 'copperhead' snake in the grass during a practice session at Wake Forest University in North Carolina.
The session was briefly halted as players moved away, and the venomous snake was later removed from the field.
Germany captain Joshua Kimmich said, “We saw a snake during training yesterday. Later we were told it was venomous. If it had bitten someone, they would have had to go to hospital. In Germany, we don’t face such dangerous wildlife.”
Kimmich added that the team had joked about snakes since arriving in the United States, but said a bite could have caused serious consequences.
Organizers are aware of the issue, and medical teams along with anti-venom supplies have been kept ready at every training camp.
