Switzerland seized control of Group B following a commanding 4-1 victory over ten-man Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Johan Manzambi came off the bench to score twice during a prolific second half, building on the team’s opening-match draw against Qatar.
A lackluster opening half gave way to an explosive second period as the Swiss side finally found their rhythm. Manzambi broke the deadlock in the 74th minute with a powerful, first-time strike.
Fellow substitute Ruben Vargas then extended the lead in the 84th minute with a clever right-footed goal before providing the assist for Manzambi’s second tally in the 90th minute. This dominant performance cements the result and elevates Manzambi into serious contention for the adidas Golden Boot.
Bosnians faced significant adversity after Tarik Muharemovic received a red card for a professional foul on Breel Embolo.
While Ermin Mahmic managed to pull one back with a fierce strike three minutes into stoppage time, Switzerland captain Granit Xhaka quashed any hopes of a late rally.
Xhaka coolly converted a penalty in the 97th minute to restore the three-goal margin just before the final whistle.
