Iran’s Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) announced on Thursday night that vessels seeking transit through the Strait of Hormuz will face no fees for a 60-day period as part of a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
To meet the objectives of this agreement, the Persian Gulf Waterway Authority received orders to prioritize and expedite all passage applications with increased speed.
Officials emphasized that strict adherence to designated paths and schedules is mandatory, citing special conditions and the existence of some safety dangers on the passage route. These precautions aim to protect maritime traffic and avoid accidents while the authority works to incrementally boost transit capacity.
Persian Gulf Waterway Authority will release upcoming technical specifics and operational procedures regarding the passage.
Moreover, authorities will address additional concerns, such as mine clearance, by following the guidelines established in paragraph 5 of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
