Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has placed its forces on high alert ahead of the anniversary of the Awami League (AL), despite officials reporting no specific threats or concerns surrounding the event.
DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) SN Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter in a press conference at the DMP Media Center on Friday.
Nazrul said, “23 June is the anniversary of AL. We are on alert centering this day.”
He assured that DMP has implemented necessary security measures, including the continuation of checkpoints throughout the city, to ensure the safety of all residents.
The briefing addressed the case of a suspect named Kailla Faruk, who was recently arrested in Mohammadpur on extortion charges but reportedly resumed his criminal activities after being released on bail.
When questioned about Faruk, Nazrul said, “The matter of bail belongs to the court. Whether someone is punished is the court’s decision. But we will continue our work. If we find terrorists, drug dealers, or extortionists, we will arrest them, collect information on them, and send them to court.”
