UK Prime Minister Ready to Step Down

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer could resign as early as Monday, according to a report by The Observer, which says a timeline for his departure may soon be announced.
However, a government source has rejected the claim, insisting that Starmer is not stepping down and remains focused on running the government.
The Observer report states that Starmer discussed the matter with his wife at the prime minister’s residence, and the couple is reportedly moving toward a final decision regarding his political future.
Senior members of the Labour Party are said to be expecting a clear statement on his next steps by Monday.
Despite this, an official source maintained that Starmer is still fully engaged in his duties and remains committed to his earlier position on the issue.
Just last Friday, the British Prime Minister said he would confront any leadership challenge and urged his party not to engage in internal factional disputes.
Starmer led the centre-left Labour Party to a landslide victory in the 2024 general election. However, his popularity has since declined amid a series of controversies and policy reversals.
Public perception has increasingly turned critical, with many voters believing he has failed to deliver on promises to improve living standards.
According to calculations by Reuters, more than 100 Labour lawmakers have already publicly called for his resignation, with others demanding a clear timetable for his departure. That figure represents roughly one-quarter of the party’s representatives in the House of Commons.
The Observer report, citing unnamed sources also claims that after discussions with cabinet members, advisers, donors, and trade union leaders, Starmer has concluded that continuing in office may no longer be viable.
