After dominating both batting and bowling on the second day of the Dhaka Test, Pakistan looked well placed. However, from the very first session of the third day on Sunday, Bangladeshi bowlers asserted their authority. In the first one and a half hours of play, the Tigers picked up four wickets, reducing Pakistan to five down for 230 runs.
Pakistan had ended the previous day on 179 for 1, with the only wicket taken by Mehidy Hasan Miraz. The star spinner added two more wickets to his tally today. Saud Shakeel was dismissed lbw for a duck while attempting a sweep off Miraz. He later removed the well-set Abdullah Fazal, who was caught by Taijul Islam at mid-on. Fazal scored 60 runs off 120 balls.
Earlier, the first breakthrough of the day came through pace spearhead Taskin Ahmed. Debutant Awais, who had scored 103 off 165 balls, was caught in the slips by Najmul Hossain Shanto off Taskin’s bowling, ending a 104-run second-wicket partnership. Soon after, Pakistan captain Shan Masood was dismissed for 9, caught at short point by Sadman Islam, again off Taskin.
